The
Turopolje is a breed of pig originating from the region with the same name in
Croatia. Like many other hardy breeds in Europe, its population is declining.
It is characterized by its medium size and a grey or white coat with some dark spots. The ears are long and half hanging. The legs are short and strong, the tail curls slightly.
Pigs are good swimmers and divers. They can be kept outdoors and are perfectly qualified for extensive outdoor rearing.
During summer, the pigs are reared on organic mountain pastures and are fed on whey, thus making the most of the leftovers from the Etivaz production.
